I am officially a university dropout!

Hey guys, I know this might be a jumpscare considering a lot of my posts before have been about Uni and nothing negative has been said... so why have I dropped out? Today I officially received the email that I am no longer a student at my University and its because I've realised how unfulfilling the course was. I was studying Biology and for me it felt like a lot of memorising information, without much engagement needed from me. I didn't have to think, I was just writing notes to memorise later and was doing the bare minimum every lecture. I did not care about what I was learning and only looked forward to when I got to stop learning it. This, combined with studying a module I actually liked (Bodies in History) helped me realise I was much more interested in the history of science and the contexts of different scientific discoveries, instead of learning the modern science. I will be honest, once this idea got in my head I searched for the most similar course and was already emailing universities, that was on the 20th February so I had to get that process moving quick.

what is the process of dropping out like

no one would have told you how difficult it is to get together the logistics of dropping out and how no one is there to help you. The amount of emails I sent to advice services and calls that weren't answered is really frustrating but if anyone needs advice on the process I am happy to help.

what am I doing now

currently I am on a 6 month "gap year" even though half of that would've been summer anyway. I chose not to complete the year because all of this was right before the end of term 2 so I thought it would just be a waste of student finance and tuition fees. I have a gap year bucket list of many things I want to get done, none of which seems likely right now since I have been home for a week and only left the house once to go to Tesco :/

what am I going to do next

I have applied to unis next year on UCAS and have already received 3 offers!, one of which being my dream course. So the plan is to chill until September since I don't have much to worry about

should you drop out

I think the choice would have been more difficult if the problem wasn't my course and instead was my experience at University and feeling like it wasn't the University for me. There would be a lot more uncertainty because things can improve and you can meet more friends and find "your people" later than you think. I ended up going from strangers to best friends with my flatmate the week before I realised I wanted to drop out so I would say trust your gut but also be kind to yourself. Suffering for 2 years to meet your best friend in 3rd year might not be worth it idk.

thank you guys so much for reading my post about dropping out of University, since I have more free time I'm going to be more active here talking about anything and everything I have learned and just have fun really so... yeah!
